The staff and students of Kay Bingham started the school year off with the motto: "This year, is going to ROCK!"
For the first two days, students from grades 1-6, were grouped into "dens" and rotated through teacher directed stations that taught the expectations of our school’s matrix:
R espect
O rganization
C ooperation
K indness
S afety
These five foundations to a safe, caring and successful school were developed through discussion with staff, parents and students and brought together by our school’s Social Responsibility Committee to address one of our school growth goals. We want all students to be demonstrating these behaviours. As well, staff and students can now use a common language to talk about school wide expectations for behaviour.
The students have developed posters, created chants, and led morning announcements with messages around our R.O.C.K.S. theme. In addition, each den group created an Inkshuk "built" from R.O.C.K.S. In the traditional Inuit way, an Inushuk is meant to guide or show the way. Our students built their Inukshuks to guide students to the right path for success at school. The directions of the arms and legs, indicate the right "road to take." We all feel that we are on the right road to success for Kay Bingham!
