The Family Literacy Committee has coordinated a number of events in January in support of Family Literacy Week.
The 2012 Official Heap the Honda event launch took place on January 7th at Kamloops Honda. The public has been invited to donate gently used books for local children at participating schools and community drop off locations. Books will be used to stock the Bright Red Book Shelf and social service agency book collections. Books will also be given to local families at Family Literacy Day and Family Games Night on Jan 26th. In addition to the Heap the Honda event, many schools will be challenged to participate in Unplug and Play.
A schedule of community events and activities offered to families will be included in the Passport to Play booklet, distributed to schools during Family Literacy Week. Cris Rowan, renowned speaker and author on the impact of technology returns to present two workshops for parents and professionals: Raising Today’s Children: Technology Overload? Finding Balance on Jan 25th 6:30-8:30 and Balancing Screen Time and Green Time: Why Cant Children Sit Still? On Jan 26th from 9-12. Contact Traci at 250-554-5437 to register for these parent and professional workshops.
