District Internet Policy
Please read the following bulletins sent from the Ministry of Education - Deputy Minister:
PLNet is an Education Intranet, built on the provincial government's Shared Provincial Access Network (SPAN/BC). In addition to over 2000 public schools, colleges, and institutes, SPAN/BC provides all government ministries, agencies, hospitals and pharmacies with Internet access and intra-communication between all sites. Like any shared community resource, standards for the use of the resource are necessary to ensure continued functionality and equitable access for all users. Because PLNet represents over half of SPAN/BC clients, the cooperation of school districts is critical.
We have received three recent initiatives related to the operation of the PLNet. These initiatives are essential to the collective efforts to control network costs, enhance security, optimise network speed, and reduce access to inappropriate Internet sites. They will be incorporated into the District Acceptable Use Policy effective immediately.
