Joseph Small

Trustee

Joe Small has enjoyed a 35 year career in education and is looking forward to his first term as a school trustee.

Joe’s educational career started in 1978 when he moved his young family from Winnipeg, Manitoba up to Snow Lake, Manitoba to accept a Grade 7 classroom position.  He taught in Snow Lake for seven years before moving his family south to Morden, Manitoba where for the next five years he taught Grade 7 and 8.  His plan was always to move to BC and in 1990, he and his family made that a reality when he accepted a Grade 7 teaching assignment in Fraser Lake, BC.  It was during his five years in Fraser Lake that he worked on and acquired his Masters Degree in Education which opened the door to administration.  On January 1st, 1996, he and his wife, Pat, moved down to Kamloops as he accepted his first administrative assignment as Vice-Principal of Parkcrest Elementary.  This was followed by principalships at Pinantan Elementary, Pacific Way Elementary, Summit Elementary, and Arthur Stevenson Elementary.  In his 17 year career with Kamloops, he enjoyed working with some amazing teachers, fellow administrators, parents and students. Joe retired in 2013 and although he has been thoroughly enjoying retirement, he is excited at being able to once again get involved in ensuring our young people get the best education possible.
